Tips for Processing Insurance Claims

Processing insurance claim

It looks like filing an insurance claim would be easy; you just go to the agent they begin processing insurance claims and you are done right? Unfortunately it is nowhere near as simple as it looks on the commercials. The insurance claims process can be intimidating but if you have the right tips and hints you can get through it pretty quickly and unscathed.

You can end up processing insurance claims in a number of ways. For example, you may have to go through the insurance claim process if you are in an automobile accident or have to end up processing insurance claim forms because of a death in the family. If you have to go through an insurance claim process there are a few tips that can help you along the way.

There are four steps involved in processing insurance claims; these steps are reporting, investigation, evaluation and settlement. Insurance claims take time to sort out so you need to be patient and give the agents time to do their job efficiently.

Reporting the claim to the insurance company is the first step in the process. This is the general claim and is usually filed with 24 hours of an accident or occurrence. Usually the investigator will get back to you within 24 hours as well with a claim number.

Processing insurance claims moves into the investigation phase next. This is the time where the investigator talks to you and tries to find out what happened in the loss of vehicle or property. The next step of processing insurance claims is the evaluation, which is where the adjuster goes out and inspects the damage to determine what the dollar amount will be for losses.

Finally, the insurance process ends with a settlement. This is the last step in processing insurance claims and can seem to be a long time in coming. The insurance company should issue a check to cover any damage or loss and the process is complete. Processing insurance claims can be time consuming and a hassle to do, but with these tips hopefully it will be as painless as possible for you if, and, when the time comes that you have to file a claim.
